"Ena, the Tempest Sovereign", Clip Studio Paint, 2024
Inspired by game splash art, I focused on dynamic movement and impact using leading lines and foreshortening. Brushwork emphasized muscle texture, while a bright blue contrasted the villain’s red to highlight the hero’s dominance. My goal was to capture the battle’s intensity in a single frame.
"An unstoppable force", Clip Studio Paint & Blender, 2024
I utilized a monochrome palette as a storytelling device, not only to establish the atmosphere but also to highlight the hero’s strength—their fire illuminating the entire scene. To ensure accurate lighting, I used Blender to generate precise reference for this unique effect.
"In the distance", Charcoal on Drawing Paper (18"x24"), 2024
I began by creating an accurate drawing of my reference, outlining areas of different values using hard, medium, and soft charcoal sticks to define dark shades. As the piece developed, I used a blending stick to establish midtones on the face and carved out highlights with white charcoal. To enhance the sense of form, I followed the natural contours of the face when applying charcoal.
"Contrast", Charcoal on Drawing Paper (18"x24"), 2024
I started this drawing by first segmenting the dark regions of the face. To balance the overexposed areas, I added detail only in the shadows, leaving the illuminated regions completely white. To enhance contrast, I placed the lighter side of the face against a dark background and the darker side against a lighter background.
"Peaches", Acrylic Paint on Drawing Paper (18"x24"), 2024
When capturing the reference image, I positioned the light to create a dark-light-dark pattern, adding striking areas of contrast.I started the painting with a light green underpainting to enhance the warm orange tones of the subject. Beginning with the shadows, I blocked in areas of unique color before moving on to the highlights. After establishing the peaches, I shifted focus to the background, carefully rendering the folds and shadows of the fabric. Once the background was complete, I refined the peaches, blending shapes while maintaining the contours of the forms.
"Pumpkins", Acrylic Paint on Drawing Paper (5"x5"), 2024
I chose a light blue background to create a strong contrast with the warm tones of the pumpkins, making them stand out more vividly. To enhance the texture and depth, I applied thick layers of paint, emphasizing bold, expressive strokes. Instead of extensive blending, I kept the brushwork distinct and intentional, giving the piece a striking, stylized quality that adds energy and character to the composition.
Character Design, Clip Studio Paint, 2024
I started with reference gathering and developed 20 unique designs, blending key elements from various cultures. To convey an aggressive look, I used sharp edges at various places. I added more detailed armor & accessories near the face of the character to draw focus. Further, I layered the different clothing for further cohesion, while keeping a limited color palette for clarity.
Weapon Design, Clip Studio Paint, 2024
I started by researching shape designs that conveyed the feel of a 'heavy' axe. From there, I created 20 unique axe designs centered around the themes of fire and dragons. Finally, I selected my top three designs and developed three color variations for each. In the final render, I used a Jade texture in order to add further detail to the blade of the Axe.
Prop Design, Clip Studio Paint, 2024
When working on the 10 house designs, I focused on keeping the silhouettes simple while exaggerating proportions like roof size and height. I blended East Asian architectural elements with medieval-style housing for a unique look. For the final render, I used Blender, gradient maps, and photobashing to achieve the final product.
